  • Ms Tamara Morris has been accepted into the LSUHSC-NO Interdisciplinary graduate program. (3/2020)
  • From our collaboration with Drs. Yue and Gardner (LSUHSC-NO Physiology), Dr. Jiaxi Xu and Ms. Tamara Morris manuscript entitled "Effects of chronic nicotine inhalation on systemic and pulmonary blood pressure and right ventricular remodeling in mice" was accepted for publication in Hypertension.   • Dr. Mona Elgazzaz was selected to receive the Mead Johnson Research Award from the APS Endocrinology and Metabolism section. (1/2020)
  • Dr. Lazartigues and his colleague Dr. Catalin Filipeanu (Howard University) were awarded a new 4-year R01 from NHLBI to study ACE2 downregulation in hypertension (1/2020).

2019

  • Drs. Snigdha Mukerjee and Jiaxi Xu manuscript entitled "ACE2 and ADAM17 interaction regulates the activity of pre-sympathetic neurons" was accepted for publication in Hypertension. (9/2019)
  • Dr. Snigdha Mukerjee successfully defended her dissertation. She accepted a postdoctoral position at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN.(6/2019)
  • Drs. Jiaxi Xu and Ms. Snigdha Mukerjee manuscript entitled "Activation of ADAM17 on glutametergic neurons selectively promotes sympatho-excitation" was accepted for publication in Hypertension. (3/2019) This paper was featured on the Hypertension Trending Topics for April 2019. 
  • Dr. Jiaxi Xu was awarded a 3-year Career Development Award from the American Heart Association to study the role of Angiotensin receptors in cognitive impairment (03/2019).
  • Dr. Jiaxi Xu and Ms. Snigdha Mukerjee were both selected to receive the Caroline tum Suden/Frances A. Hellebrandt Professional Opportunity Award from the American Physiological Society. Ms. Mukerjee was also selected to receive a Poster Trainee Award from the APS Central Nervous System section. They will receive their awards at the Experimental Biology meeting to be held in Orlando in April. (2/2019)

  • Dr. Lazartigues and his colleagues Drs. Yue and Gardner (Physiology), were awarded a multiple PI R01 (1R01HL135635) entitled "Chronic nicotine inhalation increases susceptibility to cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases through inhibition of local compensatory mechanisms" (12/2016). 
  • Ms. Harshita Chodavarapu and Dr. Kavaljit Chhabra's manuscript entitled High-fat diet-induced glucose dysregulation is independent of changes in islet ACE2 in mice was accepted for publication in the American Journal of Physiology, Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology. (10/2016)
  • Dr. Jiaxi Xu and Ms. Snigdha Mukerjee's manuscript entitled A disintegrin and metalloprotease 17 in the cardiovascular and central nervous systems was accepted for publication in Frontiers in Physiology. (10/2016).
  • Dr. Srinivas Sriramula made an oral presentation entitled œKnockdown of Bradykinin B1 Receptor Reduces Neuro-inflammation and Prevents the Development of Salt-Sensitive Hypertension (Experimental Biology meeting, San Diego, CA, April 2-6th, 2016).
  • Dr. Jiaxi Xu made an oral presentation entitled Neuronal activation of ADAM17 by AT1A receptors contributes to neurogenic hypertension. Dr. Xu received the Postdoctoral and Early Career Research Recognition Award from the American Physiological Society Neural Control and Autonomic Regulation section (Experimental Biology meeting, San Diego, CA, April 2-6th, 2016).
  • Ms. Snigdha Mukerjee made an oral presentation entitled ACE2 Deletion is Associated with Increased ADAM17 and Reduced Inhibitory Currents to Pre-sympathetic Hypothalamic Neurons. Ms. Mukerjee received the Predoctoral Research Distinction Award from the American Physiological Society Water & Electrolyte section (Experimental Biology meeting, San Diego, CA, April 2-6th, 2016).
  • Dr. Jiaxi Xu made an oral presentation entitled ADAM17 in Neurogenic Hypertension: Function and Regulation. Dr. Xu received the Gordon Research Conference Poster Award (Angiotensin Gordon Research Conference, Il Ciocco, Italy, February 21-26th, 2016).
