Rearch Fellow
The School of Medicine at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans seeks applications for a postdoctoral research fellow position to perform experiments related to the central nervous system’s contribution to blood pressure regulation and gene modifications leading to neuro-cardiovascular dysregulation. The incumbent should have a background in cardiovascular physiology or neuroscience, a strong interest in generating hypotheses and addressing research questions of high complexity. Work will include formulation and testing of hypotheses using tools spanning gene targeting in the central nervous system (optogenetics, DREADD,…), targeting of specific neuronal networks using state-of-the-art approaches, cell culture, and data analysis. Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in inducible pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), organoids, gene targeting strategies, autonomic regulation, and other relevant methodologies. The incumbent will be trained on the responsible conduct of research and ethics in research and will be required to participate in the departmental seminar series. In addition to the technical training, the incumbent will be mentored to write scientific manuscripts and to submit grant applications.
Research interests include the molecular and physiological roles of angiotensin converting enzyme type 2 (ACE2) in neuro-cardiovascular regulation in vivo and in vitro. CV center lab uses a combination of molecular, genetic and physiological approaches including the generation of unique transgenic and knockout models, cardiovascular and neurophysiological techniques (mouse telemetry, cardiovascular function assessment, brain microinjections, microdialysis), gene therapy tools including but not limited to siRNA and viral transfection, molecular and recombinant DNA methodology, immuno- histochemistry and biochemical methods.
Research Associate 1 or 2
The Cardiovascular Center of Excellence in the School of Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA is seeking a mature, highly organized, and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Research Associate 1 or Research Associate 2.
Functioning independently, the successful candidate will participate in basic research studies and perform experiments in the field of cardiac metabolism. We are particularly interested in individuals with animal research experience, lab managerial experience, and a background in neuroscience or cardiovascular-related fields. Specific duties include the maintenance of inventory databases, conducting surgical procedures and in vitro assays, collection, analysis, and reporting of research data. RA1 Functioning somewhat independently, incumbent assists with and conducts laboratory experiments on research projects within well-defined guidelines; keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within area of research; collects, prepares, and analyzes specimens (or animal subjects); evaluates results of ( or response to) process; summarizes data; may provide supervision and guidance to junior level technicians RA2 Functions more independently and work is more complex and specialized. Often responsible for maintaining the efficient operation of the laboratory.
