Resources for Planners /Presenters/Authors or Anyone in Control of Content in Certified CME Activities

The circumstances that create a potential conflict of interest in certified CME activities are when an individual has an opportunity to affect CME content about the products or services of an ineligible entity.  Accredited CME activiies must present learners with only accurate, balanced, scientifically justified recommendations and protect learners from promotion, marketing, and commercial bias.

LSU CME ensures individuals involved in accredited activities have current and accurate disclosure forms on file with the CME office. The disclosure forms can be completed electronically. To be emailed a disclosure form, please contact CME@lsuhsc.edu.

LSU CME staff, along with the activity medical directors and coordinators, manage the conflict of interest process to ensure the education is eligible for CME certification.  This includes reviewing completed disclosures, educational content and occasionally requiring a peer-review process to address any areas of concern.

Not every financial relationship creates a conflict of interest. The purpose of the policy is to identify and addressing potential conflicts of interest is to ensure proper balance, independence, objectivity and scientific rigor of the medical school’s educational activities.
