Bio

Paul Starr, MD, DTM&H, is an Assistant Professor in the LSU Department of Family Medicine and serves as Associate Director of the LSU Family Medicine Residency Program at Kenner.

Since completing his residency in 1995 at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, Dr. Starr has worked in a diverse set of clinical environments ranging from Occupational Medicine to Emergency Medicine. His clinical experiences include extensive work with HIV patients. He currently serves as director of the inpatient service. He has served on the OMCK medical executive committee, the LSUHSC Curriculum committee, and has enjoyed leading a section of the Science and Practice of Medicine Course (SPM 100) for the past 5 years.

Dr. Starr’s clinical work includes a diverse population including routine primary care, people with developmental disabilities, substance abuse, and the transgendered community.

Additional Info

Current projects include peri-operative complication reduction in conjunction with the department of Orthopedics, observing the effects of hepatitis C on orthopedic conditions and fracture healing, and the effects of hepatitis C virus on the immune system. Dr. Starr is an avid Wikipedian, working on cataloguing  autoimmune diseases and housekeeping genes. In his spare time he works on anatomic model construction, medical diagram development and gardening.”
