Human Development Center Helps Families with Young Children who Need Assistance Covering Cost of Quality Child Care

Leslie Capo, Director of Information Services

The Early Head Start Child Care Partnership at LSU Health New Orleans’ Human Development Center is offering scholarships for early child care to qualified applicants. The Partnership supports Early Head Start programs in the Greater New Orleans area.

Up to 100 scholarships will pay for child care at eight Early Head Start partner sites -- Clara’s Little Lambs, Clara’s Little Lambs at Casa Calvo, Clara’s Little Lambs at Federal City, Gilda’s Preschool, Kid’s Kingdom, Toddler’s University, Toddler’s University 2, and Wilcox Academy of Early Learning Central City.

Scholarship requirements include: the child must be under age 3 by September 30, 2022; the parent must work or attend school at least 20 hours a week; and a family of three cannot make more than $31,091 a year.

“Quality child care for infants and toddlers is expensive and can be hard to find,” notes Maria T. Blanco, M.Ed., Assistant Professor and Director of Early Childhood Initiatives at LSU Health New Orleans’ Human Development Center. “These scholarships will help families with young children who need assistance to cover the high cost of quality child care. Parents can go to work and know their child is in a safe and enriching environment.”

The scholarships will run from August 2022 through July 2023. They are renewable until the child is 3 years old.
