Aesculapian Society Update

Taylor St. Martin (L4), President

The 2022-2023 school year is underway, and the Aesculapian Society is working hard behind the scenes, meeting with faculty members and working to improve our curriculum at the LSUHSC School of Medicine.

In September, we were thrilled to induct the first eight members of the Class of 2026 into the Society:
1. Christopher Jeanlouis – Class Coordinator
2. Avni Shridhar – Class Editor
3. Lisa Kam
4. Maya Sevalia
5. Leanne Sorrel
6. Connor Polk
7. Cody Martin
8. Jaclyn Murphy

The L1 members hit the ground running with their Anatomy and Biochemistry courses. We are proud of the enthusiasm and professionalism shown in their first few weeks. We will be electing six new L1 members in January to join the Society and represent the Class of 2026.

In addition to membership expansion, we have been checking off our goals for the 2022-2023 year. We started by adding a new section to our end-of-course reports to encompass all live feedback and better reflect curriculum advancements throughout the year. After significant feedback from faculty over the years, we have revamped our end-of-course feedback to be tailored specifically for each course. It was rolled out at the start of the year, and we look forward to watching how the new and improved survey enhances data interpretation. Our VP, Tabitha Kearns, took initiative in developing a post-STEP 1 feedback tool and is working to analyze for the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education to validate and further improve pre-clinical curriculum. Our Course Representatives have spent the beginning of the semester writing end-of-course reports for Spring 2022 courses. Our Class Editors and Curriculum Evaluation Coordinator have been working to finalize these reports to be presented at our Curriculum Evaluation Committee Meeting planned for November 8th. The Aesculapian Society continues to strive for excellence, and we look forward to finishing the semester out strong!
