Internal Medicine

Dr. Marcus Bachhuber (Community & Population Medicine) published Reducing Opioid Analgesic Prescribing in Dentistry through Prescribing Defaults: a Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial in Pain Medicine, to determine the effect of uniform, reduced default dispense quantity for new opioid analgesic prescription on the quantity of opioids prescribed in dentistry practices.

Dr. Cynthia J. Brown recently published in the Annals of Surgery describing feedback from key stakeholders regarding dissemination and implementation of a Virtual Acute Care for Elders (Virtual ACE) program, a novel intervention that improves outcomes for hospitalized older adults.

Dr. Casey Murphy (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation) recently published a review of “Spine Infections” on PM&RknowledgeNOW, an on-line resource. The chapter describes etiology, assessment, PM&R management and cutting-edge therapies for spine infections.

Dr. Raj Mohandas (Nephrology) published a paper in Hypertension on the comparative safety and effectiveness of aldosterone antagonists versus beta blockers as fourth agents in patients with apparent resistant hypertension.

Dr. M. Jacques Nsuami and Dr. Stephanie Taylor (Infectious Diseases) recently published Incident Chlamydia trachomatis Infection in a High School Population in Biology.

Multiple members of the Pulmonary & Critical Care/Allergy & Immunology section, including Dr. Stephen Kantrow, Dr. Matt Lammi, and Dr. Ben deBoisblanc, contributed to Inspiratory Airway Resistance in Respiratory Failure Due to Covid-19, recently published in Critical Care Explorations . Lead author was former pulmonary fellow, Dr. Bijan Nezami, and coauthors included other LSU trainees: Dr. Hai Tran, Dr. Kevin Zamora and Dr. Peter Lowery.
