Student Research Showcased at Annual Symposium

More than 110 LSU medical students presented their research projects at the Annual Medical Student Research Symposium on October 30th. The Thursday symposium was followed by the awards ceremony held on November 3rd with guest speaker Dr. James Wittliff. 

Medical students from LSUHSC-New Orleans and other institutions conducted medical research on the LSUHSC-New Orleans campus, the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center, Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, University Medical Center, and other clinics and research centers throughout Louisiana. Students with federal and regional awards to conduct summer or year-long research outside the state also presented their projects.  

The winners of the 22nd Annual Medical Student Research Symposium receive a travel award to present their research at a scientific conference.

She also acknowledged the LSUHSC School of Medicine Dean's Office, the National Institutes of Health's National Cancer Institute (NCI), the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center, The Robert A. Winn Diversity in Clinical Trials/Clinical Investigator Pathway Program (Winn CIPP), Dr. Richard DiCarlo, Dr. James Wittliff, and Mrs. Mitzie Hano Wittliff as vital to making the symposium possible.
