Dr. Ramacharan began his medical profession in his native home, Madras, India with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. He completed his general surgery residency at Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, West Virginia. Dr. Ramcharan began his transplant training at the University of Minnesota and completed his living liver and pediatric transplant training at Emory University School of Medicine & Children's Healthcare in Atlanta, Georgia.
