Internal Medicine
Dr. Michael Brands (PM&R Resident) was selected to present his project, The Military Health History, at the National Conference of Academic Affiliations of the VA in Chicago earlier this year. He previously won an award for this same project at Medicine Research Day.

Ophthalmology
Dr. ThompsonJohn P. Thompson, MD-PGY4 was accepted into the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery's accredited Fellowship Program at the Emory Eye Center in Atlanta, GA. It is one of only 25 placements available nationwide this year.

Dr. Thompson recently had two articles published in the Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, Progressive Cranial Polyneuropathy From Neurotropic Melanoma (Authors: Thompson, John P. MD; Hattier, Georgette A. MD; Bozner, Elizabeth M. BS; Wood, Jeremy J. MD; Kirchner, Kevin R. MD); and Bilateral Optic Neuropathy Following Phesgo Injection for HER2+ Breast Cancer (Authors: Thompson, John P. MD; Malik, Alaa N. BS; Puri, Sidharth MD). Alaa Malik is a member of the SOM Ophthalmology Interest Group.

Pathology
Liz YangPGY3 Resident Dr. Liz Yang has accepted a fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology at University of Rochester, New York.

 

 

 

Jihuan ChenPGY3 Resident Dr. Jihuan Chen has accepted a fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology at UC Irvine, California.

 

 

 

Physiology
Nick Harris and Stephanie Lee passed the Physiology Qualifying Exam to pursue their graduate work. 

Former T35 Fellow Amy Brouillette has been accepted into the School of Medicine Honors Research Program to work in the Edwards Lab.

ADACE at Sober FestStephanie Lee, Taylor Fitzpatrick-Schmidt, and Linh Ha represented ADACE at Xavier University's Recovery Month Sober Fest earlier this year. ADACE is also partnering with the School of Medicine student mobile health clinics to distribute fentanyl test strips and will soon have xylazine test strips.

 

 

Radiology
The department held its graduation ceremony at Lula Restaurant & Distillery. Dr. Julie Allen, Dr. Mae Igi, Dr. Ryan King, Dr. Cody Rigsbee, and Dr. Chandler Van Dyke graduated from the Diagnostic Radiology Residency. Dr. Everardo Flores and Dr. Dan Laney graduated from the Interventional Radiology Residency. Dr. Alisa Tanakit graduated from her Neuroradiology Fellowship and Dr. Jane Ball graduated from her Women’s & Breast Imaging Fellowship. 

The department held its annual Resident Research Symposium earlier this year. Dr. Andrew Ea gave the keynote presentation, “Pulmonary Artery Pseudoaneurysm.” Dr. Claire Holmes presented, “De Garengeot Hernia with Perforated Appendicitis and Adjacent Abscess.” Dr. Taylor Bragg presented, “Hyperparathyroidism in Musculoskeletal Radiology.” Dr. Easton Downs presented, “Fatal Case of Hughes -Stovin Syndrome” and “Pediatric Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor with Multiple Metastatic Sites.” Dr. Jacob Schroeder presented, “Removal of a Permanent IVC Filter: Techniques and Case Presentation.”
