Library Provides Research Data Management Services

Kathryn E. Kerdolff, MLIS
Associate Professor/Librarian

What is research data management?

Research data management is a concept used to describe the managing, sharing, and archiving of research data to make it more accessible to the broader research community. Research data management provides an opportunity for a researcher to create a plan that will ensure that their data will be organized so that it can be shared with other researchers, and archived for long-term preservation.

How can library services help?

The Library offers Research Data Management (RDM) services to help you manage your research data in accordance with journal and funder data-sharing requirements including NIH and NSF.

Library RDM services provide assistance with:

  • Developing data management plans
  • Preventing data loss
  • Maintaining data findability
  • Complying with NIH and NSF data-sharing requirements
    • Publication of results is NOT sharing data
    • Data should be shared on an open repository or a data catalog

Contact John P. Bourgeois, MPH, MLIS, AHIP at jbou12@lsuhsc.edu in the library for more information on how the library can help with RDM.

Library RDM services are available to all LSU Health - New Orleans affiliates who are at any stage in their research process.
