Regents Approve Institute for the Health and Performance of Champions
The Louisiana Board of Regents unanimously approved the creation of the Institute for the Health and Performance of Champions, marking an exciting new chapter in LSU’s leadership in health, athletics, and human performance.
The new institute is a collaborative partnership between Our Lady of the Lake, the LSU School of Kinesiology, and the LSU Health Sciences Center. Its mission is to advance training, education, and research focused on improving health, performance, and wellness — not only for athletes, but also for individuals in physically demanding careers such as the military, firefighting, and other high-performance fields.
With this approval, LSU will begin the process of formally establishing the institute, which will provide valuable opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students pursuing studies in health, human performance, and related disciplines. A progress report and request for continuation are scheduled to be presented to the Board of Regents in 2028.
"This enormous step will create incredible opportunities for our learners and for orthopaedics,” said Dr. Bob Zura, Department Head, Orthopaedic Surgery. "I am grateful to Dr. Nelson for his visionary leadership. His guidance and support throughout this process have been invaluable."
