Dr. Kelsey Doguet Awarded LSUHSC Resident Research Grant

>

news_event1Dr. Kelsey Doguet has been awarded this year's Resident Research Grant to assist in funding her project "A Platform for the Visual Evaluation of the Ears, Nose, and Oral Cavity Via Telemedicine." The goal of this project is to produce a device that can be deployed in remote clinics and patients' homes for the diagnostic evaluation of the ears, nose, and oral cavity. The device is currently being developed in conjunction with the LSU Engineering Capstone Design Program. The device will consist of a small, hand-held video camera connected to a base station with a display and processing unit. The camera housing will adapt to interchangeable specula that can be inserted into the ear canal and anterior nasal cavity, and an oral appliance to visual the anterior oral cavity. The base station will be Internet enabled and can transmit images in real-time to a PC based client deployed in the specialist's clinic.

After the device is designed and created in the next year, the plan will be to test its functionality in our resident clinics. We are proud of Dr. Doguet, her innovative project, and dedication to helping patients in need!
