During the summer, Dr. Ashley C. Mays held the first Head and Neck Cancer Pre-operative Clinic in conjunction with the Head and Neck Enhanced Recovery Pathway. The patient feedback received from the clinic has been positive across the board.

The Head and Neck Cancer Pre-Op Clinic was developed at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in collaboration with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. The head and neck cancer patients undergo a very rigorous treatment regimen sometimes requiring free tissue transfer from other parts of their body causing their recovery from surgery to often be prolonged. The clinic aims to better educate and prepare our head and neck cancer patients for their upcoming surgery and the possible need for postoperative radiation or chemotherapy. This clinic allows patients to bring their family members and meet with multiple members of our multidisciplinary team, such as speech therapy, pre-operative nursing, social work, and more. The clinic will be held every Tuesday at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.

Dr. Mays would like to personally thank our team for all their time and effort in helping to organize and implement this clinic, as well as their continued dedication to providing top-tier care for our patients.
