Mastering the Mastoid: ENT's September Temporal Bone Course
On September 13, 2025, the LSU Health Sciences Center Department of Otolaryngology held its Temporal Bone Drilling Course at the Center for Advanced Practice (CAP) Lab in New Orleans. This immersive, hands-on training session brought together residents, fellows, and faculty for a day of focused instruction and didactics in temporal bone anatomy and surgical technique.
A highlight of the course was a featured lecture by guest surgeon Dr. Adam Master, entitled “Mastering the Mastoid: An Introduction to Mastoidectomy and Temporal Bone Surgery.” Dr. Master’s presentation provided a comprehensive overview of mastoidectomy principles, surgical landmarks, and operative strategies, setting the stage for the practical drilling sessions that followed.
The course marked a milestone for Dr. Cameron Lindemann, Neurotology Fellow, who attended his first formal drilling course as part of his subspecialty training. Under the guidance of experienced faculty and guest instructors, participants engaged in cadaveric dissection and temporal bone drilling exercises designed to reinforce anatomical knowledge and surgical confidence.
Held in the state-of-the-art CAP Lab, the course exemplified LSUHSC’s commitment to surgical education and excellence in otolaryngology training.
