Dr. Stephen C. Hernandez, MD has been named the Eminent Scholar and Chairholder of the Daniel W. Nuss, MD Endowed Chair in Skull Base Surgery. This prestigious appointment recognizes Dr. Hernandez's outstanding accomplishments as a clinician, educator, researcher, and leader within the field of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Currently serving as Associate Professor and Residency Program Director at LSU Health New Orleans, Dr. Hernandez has distinguished himself through exceptional academic productivity, innovation in skull base surgery, and a steadfast commitment to resident education and mentorship.
Dr. Hernandez has earned national and international recognition for his contributions to skull base surgery, including numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and invited presentations. His work has advanced surgical techniques, outcomes research, and simulation-based education, helping shape the future of training and patient care in complex skull base disorders. Most notably, he served as lead author of the 2024 international consensus statement on the treatment of rare skull base malignancies, which was later recognized as a Top Cited Article by its publisher.
