Moore, Creel Named Assistant Deans for Faculty Affairs

Drs. Michelle Moore, Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Orthopaedics, and Amy Creel, Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, have agreed to serve as the two new Assistant Deans for Faculty Affairs.

“These are new positions in the School of Medicine; we have never had assistant deans in the Office of Faculty and Institutional Affairs,” said Dr. Stephanie Taylor, Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Institutional Affairs. “Faculty development is a priority, and Dr. Moore and Dr. Creel have already demonstrated a commitment to mentoring faculty through their years of service on the Faculty Development and Mentoring committees. The creation of these positions demonstrates Dr. DiCarlo’s commitment to our faculty and will provide laser-focus on faculty development.”

Dr. Moore earned her bachelor’s from Marymount Manhattan College with a double major in psychology and theatre, and earned her master's in school psychology and doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Pace University in New York. She completed her internship and fellowship training in the LSU Department of Psychiatry and joined the faculty in 2011.

Dr. Moore is board-certified in clinical psychology, a certified wellness provider, and a certified executive coach. Since 2023, she has held a joint appointment in orthopaedics, serving as Director of Faculty Development, where she developed an executive coaching program for the department. Dr. Moore also served as section chief for psychology from 2022-2025, psychology internship training director, and was awarded the Anderson/Searle Professorship in Psychiatry in 2019 and the Mollie Wallick Professorship in Psychiatry in 2022.

Within the School of Medicine, Dr. Moore served as the Senior Representative to Association of American Medical Colleges, Council of Faculty and Academic Societies; co-chair of the Women's Affairs, Mentoring and Faculty Development and Evaluation Committees; Course Director for L1 Human Behavior and Development; faculty advisor for the Non-Traditional Student Advisory Committee; and co-host of Tiger Bites Podcast. Since joining the faculty, Dr. Moore has participated in 119 local TV and radio interviews representing LSUHSC discussing mental health topics pertinent to the community. 

Dr. Moore is a member of the Executive Council of the Louisiana Psychological Association (LPA); was appointed to the Louisiana State Board of Examiners of Psychologists and served as Chair of from 2023-2024. Dr. Moore recently served as the guest editor for a special issue of the Journal of Clinical Psychology in Medical Settings entitled “Our Greatest Resource in Academic Health Centers: Focus on Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development,” comprised of 16 original articles.

Dr. Creel completed her bachelor’s in chemistry at Millsaps College, followed by her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2002 and master’s in Medical Education from the University of Cincinnati in 2025. She completed her residency in pediatrics at LSU Health New Orleans, followed by fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Creel is board certified in both pediatrics and pediatric critical care.

In 2008, Dr. Creel joined the pediatrics department faculty and was appointed assistant director of the pediatrics clerkship in 2009 and was the Pediatrics Clerkship Director from 2010-2018. She holds the Professorship in Pediatric Research at Manning Family Children's. Dr. Creel contributes significantly to medical education and faculty development as Co-Director of Faculty Development at Manning Family Children's, Co-Leader of the Grand Rounds Committee, and Co-Chair of the Mentoring Committee at LSU School of Medicine. She was awarded the Nicholas Gagliano, MD Outstanding Faculty Award in 2009 and the Suskind Outstanding Faculty Award by the pediatrics department in 2023.

In 2022, Dr. Creel obtained certification in medical education research from the American Association of Medical Colleges. She has secured multiple grants and contracts, including co-leading investigations into professional identity formation and perceptions of belonging among medical students. Her publications in peer-reviewed journals cover topics from pediatric critical care to medical education and faculty development.
