Louisiana Board of Regents Announce Plans for Institute for the Health and Performance of Champions

The Louisiana Board of Regents has unanimously approved the creation of the Institute for the Health and Performance of Champions, marking an exciting new chapter in LSU’s leadership in health, athletics, and human performance.

The new institute is a collaborative partnership between Our Lady of the Lake, the LSU School of Kinesiology, and the LSU Health Sciences Center. Its mission is to advance training, education, and research focused on improving health, performance, and wellness — not only for athletes, but also for individuals in physically demanding careers such as the military, firefighting, and other high-performance fields.

With this approval, LSU will begin the process of formally establishing the institute, which will provide valuable opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students pursuing studies in health, human performance, and related disciplines. A progress report and request for continuation are scheduled to be presented to the Board of Regents in 2028.

From the words of Dr. Zura: "This is an enormous step. Will make incredible opportunities for our learners in BR and for orthopaedics. Thank you! Let's get shovels in dirt and build us a building!"
