Our Research Facilities
The Musculoskeletal Sample Repository (MSR)
MSR collects and stores human musculoskeletal tissues for research which focuses on preventing musculoskeletal disease progression, improving surgical outcomes, and addressing disparities of care in orthopedics.
Dr. Jennifer Simkin’s Lab
The major focus is how the immune system controls and is controlled by different types of trauma including musculoskeletal injury.
Dr. Luis Marrero’s Lab
Dr. Marrero is looking into differences in the underlying molecular mechanisms that drive fibrosis during joint disease and following the trauma of joint replacement surgery between local subgroups of patients affected by osteoarthritis.
The Morphology and Imaging Core (MIC)
The purpose of the core is to assist investigators requiring detection, imaging, and morphometric analysis of gene and protein expression in any type of cell or tissue in vitro and in vivo.
Dr. Claudia Leonardi's Lab
Dr. Claudia Leonardi and various collaborators investigate the social determinants of health disparities as they relate to modifiable, social and nutritive stressors in the community environment of New Orleans.
